Logistics
As long as there has been trade there has been a need for distribution of goods from loom to room; hive to jar; farm to fork and so on. In recent years, Logistics has been recognised as a major function in its own right.
The Distribution and Logistics industry is made up of a wide range of service providers, covering all modes of transport – air, road, rail, sea – as well as related services such as warehousing, handling, stevedoring, and finally value added services like packaging, labelling, assembling etc. In addition to these 'physical' services, the new ‘rocket science’ includes all sorts of planning, organisational and management services in the area of distribution and logistics. From source of goods to manufacturing through to the consumer and on to waste there is a major need for professionals with problem solving skills and a can-do mentality.
